QUARTER LIFE CRISIS!!

On Thursday I celebrated my 24th birthday. Now that I'm in my twenty fifth year of life I am realizing all the places I thought I would be at this point in my life and all the places I never thought I would end up. The turns and pushes that life keeps giving me are seemingly endless and I am thankful for them.

I think everyone I've spoken with has commented on my age, and my standard birthday greeting was "So, how does it feel to be old?" or "24...wow, what's that like?". Is 24 some age milestone that I was never fully aware of in my younger days? So I started thinking about this and realized that its even worse...I'm probably not going to live to be 100...probably not even until 96..I think that once I hit 90, I'll be a goner, which means that I've already passed the quarter life milestone!!

To mark this momentous occasion I felt that it was important to do some sort of evaluation of my achievements, failures and activities to date:

  1. Fooling myself into thinking that just because perfume and apple juice look the same, they should taste the same too (hey, I was 2 years old)
  2. Being the youngest Teaching Assistant in the history of my university (and being ranked first in my faculty EVERY semester I taught)
  3. Successfully perfecting the art of maxing out any credit card that comes within 2 feet of my outstretched hands.
  4. Co-choreographing a hindi dance item for 12 to 16 year old girls, giving most of them their first chance to really be in the spotlight
  5. Teaching the same dance to 12 university age girls six months later and seeing them exude as much energy and excitement as the teenagers
  6. Winning the "Best Student in Computing Science" Award in the eleventh grade
  7. Dancing in the Plaza of Nations and other venues in front of HUGE crowds at EXPO 86
  8. Holding an honours degree from my university
  9. At the wise old age of 17, realizing that my parents didn't exist to make my life more difficult and now counting them as two of my most coveted confidants.
  10. Worked for both the federal and provincial governments (and 5 other different organizations, ranging from MNCs to NGOs)
  11. Driven through the Rocky Mountains over 10 times
  12. Owned a car
  13. Jumped out of a plane at 11 000 feet
  14. Seen the New Kids of the Block in concert three times (and proud of it!!) I've also seen Colour Me Bad in concert (and am not as proud of it)
  15. Lived in 4 different major cities as an adult
  16. Driven over 210 kilometres an hour on a public road
  17. Owned neon green spandex leotards at the age of seven and earned the nickname “The Spandex Queen” (Imagine the Ms. America Song)
  18. Been to Disneyland twice and Disney World once
  19. Was a Girl Guide for 8 years (and have the badges to prove it)
  20. Have wonderful friends and family

So there it is, the 20 things I have chosen to share with the world about the first quartile of my life,. Re-reading the list I find it very interesting to see what I have included, and even more odd what I chose not to include. But I guess to me, what makes my life worthwhile is these random events and milestones, that individually seem a little strange.

What would you count as your Top 20?
